The global market for Beryllium (Be) is projected to reach 681.8 thousand kilograms by 2024, driven by the growing use of Be alloy in a wide range of industrial and electronic applications. The trend towards miniaturization of electronics and the growing demand for low weight and high strength materials that can withstand higher stress and operating temperatures are expected to drive demand for beryllium alloys in various industrial applications. Other major factors driving growth in the market include advancements in automotive electronics supported by increasing use of "Behind-the-Scenes" electronics in an average vehicle; rising volume of medical imaging procedures and the resulting increased consumption of beryllium in the production of imaging equipment; stable R&D investments in beryllium science and technology; robust growth in telecommunication infrastructure development and the ensuing demand for beryllium alloys in optical transmission tools; and increased use in aircraft components, missiles, spacecraft and satellites supported by desirable features and properties such as thermal stability, low density, high flexural rigidity, and thermal conductivity. The opportunities for growth will come mixed with challenges posed by beryllium toxicity on the environment and human health. Prolonged exposure to beryllium particulates has been found to give rise to lung diseases, chronic beryllosis, and cancer. The United States represents the largest market worldwide, with about 65% of the global beryllium resources located in the country.
