From one hand, the report analyses the main trends affecting the market over the last five years, considering the production, the consumption, the imports and the exports of lighting fixtures in the country. International Trade

Lighting fixtures exports and imports are considered, broken down by country and by geographical area of destination/origin (total lighting, only lighting fixtures, only lighting components). The time frame considered is 2013-2018.

Supply Structure

The lighting fixtures market is divided into four main segments:

Data on consumer/residential lighting are broken down by style (traditional, modern, design) and by product type (floor, table, wall and ceiling lamps, embedded lighting, downlight/sport light, chandeliers and suspensions), while data on commercial lighting are broken down by type of product (downlights, recessed luminaires, batten and modular systems, linear, LED strips, high bays, floor and table lamps, decorative and professional suspensions, projectors/spots/track, wall washers, and LED panels) and application (hospitality, office, retail, art and museums, entertainment, schools, airports and other big infrastructures). Industrial lighting consists of lighting for industrial sites, healthcare lighting, weather resistant and explosion-proof lighting, emergency lighting, marine lighting, and horticultural lighting. Outdoor lighting includes residential outdoor lighting, lighting for urban landscape, lighting for streets and major roads, area/campus lighting, lighting for tunnels and galleries, Christmas and special events lighting.

In 2018 the LED consumption still grew by 12.3%. On the other hand, traditional-source lighting fixtures sales dropped by 4.1% compared to the previous year.

During 2018, the overall Chinese production of lighting fixtures registered an annual increase of 7.7% (in USD), reaching a value of USD 42.6 billion (RMB 281.7 billion). Even higher the growth rate for the top 60 players (+18%), with high performances for companies like MLS, NVC, Yankon, Opple, FSL, Inesa Feilo. Fast growth has been registered for emergency lighting, urban landscape lighting, lighting for infrastructures. Overperforming also the DIY and e-commerce channels. A steady growth path means also an interesting profitability ratio: an average EBITDA by around 15% among a representative sample of companies.

Despite the trade friction between China and the USA, exports went up by 8.2% compared to 2017 (in USD) and accounted for 57% of its value. Moreover, the United States confirmed as the main destination market for Chinese export, with a stable share of 28%.

Imports account for only 2% of the domestic consumption as in 2018 they were worth about USD 384 million (RMB 2.5 billion). Imports of lighting fixtures mainly come from Germany and Japan (both growing in term of market share in the middle run), the USA (declining), Taiwan and Italy (both increasing).
