目录

This IDC study (translated from the Japanese report IDC #Japanese report IDC #J12010101) analyzes the trends in the Japan network equipment market (comprising routers, Ethernet switches, and enterprise WLAN equipment) in 1H11 and its future outlook. In 1H11, the Japan network equipment market saw negative growth in the enterprise segment due to the impact from the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, but positive growth in the carrier/SP segment due to steady demand from mobile carriers. IDC believes the same will be seen in 2H11. For the full-year 2011, we predict stable demand from carriers but negative growth for the enterprise segment. In 2012, post-disaster reconstruction needs and improvements in the economic condition will bring positive growth to the enterprise network equipment market.

In the future, it will be common for companies to use hybrid LANs that have coexisting WLAN and Ethernet environments. "In wired/wireless LAN environments, what equipment vendors should do in the operation management aspect is to provide ways to centrally manage wired/wireless networks. They should seek to improve user experience in wired/wireless environments with functions that enable seamless wired/wireless switching and WLAN roaming," says Kenichi Kusano, senior market analyst, Communications, IDC Japan.
