The Xpert MTB/RIF assay developed by Cepheid (Sunnyvale, CA) has recently been endorsed by the WHO as the initial method used to diagnose TB and replace smear microscopy. This molecular based POC assay has increased sensitivity, reduced turnaround time (2 hours) and immediate identification of rifampicin resistance, and therefore has potential to improve patient care and impact on global TB prevention. 17:45 Semiconductor Dx: From Sequencing to POC Chris Toumazou, Ph.D., CEO and Founder, DNA Electronics Ltd. DNA Electronics has developed a method for all-electronic detection of nucleic acid using standard semiconductor chips.
