FTTx: Influence on Broadband Network Architecture
Wednesday, 6 June | 10:30 – 12:00

FTTx is recognized as the trend of the fixed-access network. Some leading operators are rolling out FTTx to offer differentiated services to users. However, FTTx deployment has profound influences on current broadband network architecture. In this session, the following questions will be addressed:

  • FTTx includes various network architectures, such as FTTN, FTTC, FTTB, and FTTH. What is the favorable network architecture for operators in the future?
  • The number of remote access nodes grows very fast with deep fiber. CAPEX and OPEX will increase tremendously due to the growth of remote access nodes. What are the cost-effective approaches of network construction and maintenance to reduce CAPEX and OPEX?
  • The current network architecture is not fit for fiber access because the fiber access node can cover many more users than DSLAM due to the bigger coverage of fiber, and fiber can provide much more bandwidth than copper. What is the best fit network architecture for fiber access?

In this session, carriers and vendors will share experiences, visions, and ideas for a new network architecture fit for FTTx.
