Abstract
Research Overview
The last 10 years have registered steady growth in services outsourcing and in particular towards integrated service providers, which can guarantee a sole point of contact for the client as well as sharing risk and being fully accountable for delivering.
The concept of Integrated Facilities Management (I-FM) originated in the United States and spread widely during 1980s in the United Kingdom and then in rest of Europe. Its popularity has grown together with the increased awareness in the client base and due to cost cutting initiatives that European companies have had to undertake to remain competitive in a globalised business environment. Integrated Facilities Management can provide key business solutions, shape up an office environment and deliver real savings to companies. Even in the tougher business environment following the macroeconomic slowdown in continental Europe after year 2000, I-FM specialists have kept growing. More businesses are in fact recognising the benefits of outsourcing I-FM as a way of reducing operating costs and improving efficiency. I-FM specialists are also responding to a general enthusiasm for partnership-style working through the development of customer-supplier relationships.
