Abstract
This Energy Insights report details the example of American Electric Power, a utility taking a leadership role in sustainability and the use of information technology to help manage carbon emissions. The report describes the business challenges faced by this power generator, the selection and adoption of information technology - in this case software as a service - and the benefits and lessons learned in the course of the initiative. According to Energy Insights analyst, Jill Feblowitz, "Power generators seeking to improve their corporate performance with respect to emissions need to assemble new and existing technologies to support reporting, alerting, collaboration, and business and operational intelligence. The effort will also require a corporatewide initiative focused on carbon management, along with reorienting employees to pay attention to and manage carbon emissions."
