The skirmishes between US cable and telecom providers are about to erupt into a full-scale war. In the past, cable operators have had the weapons to fend off any serious challenge from their telecom rivals, but 2008 will see a fight.

eMarketer estimates that by 2012 there will be over 533 million broadband households worldwide, of which 94.3 million will be in the US.
